A Lovely Reminder

March 8, 2011

I love flowers! In any form, they are just so beautiful…drawn, painted, in a garden, at a florist shop, given, received. They brighten my day when I see them. I just wish I didn’t kill them while they are in my care.

These two lovely specimens I received within a day of each other. The one on the right at a family party, the one on the left at church (which I promptly forgot for a week…sorry Pam!)

Now, I have been known to kill even the hardiest of plants. I have even destroyed silk plants, much to my husband’s amazement. ~smile~ As you can see in this photo, the process has already begun on my beautiful roses. I actually think they did better the week they were left up at the church than they’ve been doing here at home. I lost even more petals when I watered it after the photo shoot. But I’m not going to give up on it yet!

The flower on the right is plastic. It’s washable if it gets dirty, durable and does a cute little dance in the sunlight powered by a solar cell. It makes me smile. I think I can keep this one “alive.” I think my sister-in-law knows me pretty well to give it to me.

That’s the way of flowers, though. They eventually wither and fade away. I love that the Lord makes something as beautiful as flowers for us to enjoy, but I know there are some that no one (but the Lord Himself) ever sees with their eyes. And even knowing that, the Lord puts them here.

“Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don’t fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?” Luke 12:27-28 (The Message)

I tend to worry. Things come and I get all tied up in knots about “what if” and “when” and “who”…and “why.” Oh my goodness, “why” seems to come up a great deal. I can turn to this verse, though, and know that whatever has been set in my world, the Lord has seen and knows the what, when, who and why. And He is ready to provide my material needs as well as my emotional and spiritual ones.

I am not alone and need never worry. The flowers are a lovely reminder of this. Thank you Lord, for that reminder today, of your love for me.
