Day 11 – A picture of something you hate

I really hate it when I see any grammatical errors, but I realize that on occasion one might make a mistake. That can be forgiven. However, one particular error, made over and over by a growing percent of the population makes me react as if someone if raking their fingernails across a chalkboard.

Apostrophes are not to be used to make a word into a plural, people! Apostrophes are used to connote possession or contraction. I see it everywhere – on menus, signs, notes, bulletin boards… It’s a simple rule we all [should] have learned in grade school. If a word needs to be made into a plural, you add s or es. This shouldn’t be a difficult concept!

If you have questions, look it up. There are plenty of helps online. The Oatmeal comics has a great poster to help. (Disclaimer: I do NOT agree with everything they post on their site!)

I’ll get down off the soap box now…

Not to mention the near-constant misuse of there, they’re, and their. Etc.
